1987- Slow Fires, a documentary film about the “crisis” of brittle books, is completed. The film, commissioned by Warren Haas, president of the Council on Library Resources, was produced and directed by Terry Sanders, written by Ben Maddow, and narrated by television journalist Robert MacNeil. Nicholson Baker, in his book Double Fold: Libraries and the Assault on Paper, calls it “the most successful piece of library propaganda ever created (pg. 184).”
