1944- African-American author Richard Wright agrees to change the title of his forthcoming autobiography from American Hunger to Black Boy. He also agrees to excise the latter portion of the book dealing with his experiences in the northern United States, as well as his membership in and subsequent quarrel with the Communist Party. These changes are made chiefly to satisfy the wishes of Dorothy Canfield Fisher, one of the judges of the Book-of-the-Month Club.
