American Newspaper Repository

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 10 months ago

1999- Author Nicholson Baker creates the non-profit American Newspaper Repository. The ANR was established specifically to purchase from the British Library a number of runs of American newspapers of special historical value, rather than let them be sold to dealers in historical souvenirs. Notable long runs included the New York World, the New York Herald Tribune, the New York Times, and the Chicago Tribune, as well as many foreign language and immigrant papers. In 2004, the collection was donated to the Duke University Library, with the agreement that the collection would be maintained in perpetuity as a whole, and that the volumes would never be subjected to experimental deacidification or disbound for the purpose of reproduction.
