1920s

 

1922 - Hendrik Willem van Loon is awarded the Newbery Medal for his book, The Story of Mankind.

 

1924 - "Certain standards for Elementary School Libraries" is published.

 

1927 - International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) founded in Edinburgh, Scotland

 

1928 - Librarian Herbert Putnam and Music Division chief Carl Engel create an Archive of American Folksong in the Library of Congress

 

1928 - The first PhD. in library education was earned at the University of Chicago Library School.
